At Leeza's Place, we will be offering state caregiver
courses to all of our guests. The curriculum will be our won in partnership
with other wonderful community organizations.. In addition to allowing caregivers
the opportunity to become confident in the caregiving process by attending
actual classes. However in addition to taking care of ourselves it is vital to know about the challenges posed by a loved one with a memory disorder, such as personality and behavioral changes, which can baffle the unprepared caregiver. As caregivers learn and adapt to the afflicted person's behavior, they will learn how to customize a patient's living environment, thereby making the caregiving experience less difficult and stressful. Throughout the educational process however, they will be accomplishing a parallel process of gain self esteem and taking care of oneself in a respectful and empowering manner. Caregivers who take advantage of programs such as support groups, adult day care and respite care (a temporary nursing home-like service where patients may stay for a limited number of days) keep their loved one at home longer than those who do not. They also tend to feel healthier and find caregiving more rewarding than those who do not use support services. |
